The MLB Trade Deadline is exactly four weeks from today – my absolute favorite time of year (next to MLB Winter Meetings, of course). The reason being because so many general managers are filled with the inexcusable need to make a “big splash” and trade for a big name before August 1 arrives.
But for the Cincinnati Reds, general manager Walt Jocketty often steers on the side of caution when the deadline approaches – choosing to make minor moves here and there to help the team instead of overpaying for a big name. Often, Jocketty’s wheelin’ and dealin’ comes in the offseason around the GM Winter Meetings (hence why I love them so much).
Maybe….just maybe Uncle Walt feels the itch to do something big to jolt some life into his inconsistent ballclub. If that is the case, well I don’t know what I would do – possibly dance in excitement or curl up in fear that he mortgaged the entire farm system to win now.
Either way, let’s take a look at some bold moves that Uncle Walt should make (aka moves I would make on MLB The Show).
