Cardinals Impress in Season Opener
Cardinals, 49 – Bobcats, 7
There were high expectations for the Louisville football program this Summer and Sunday afternoon the Cardinals did not disappoint. Louisville cruised to a 49-7 victory over the Ohio Bobcats behind Heisman hopeful, Teddy Bridgewater’s, 5 touchdown passes. The Louisville gunslinger finished the day 355 passing yards in just 3 and a half quarters of work. The Cardinals were dominate all game long and were helped by the recently acquired Michael Dyer. Dyer finished the day with just 48 yards on 4 carries but a 46 yard dash to the end zone in the third quarter gave the Cardinal faithful a taste of whats to come.
Player of the Game:
Teddy Bridgewater – 23/28 passing with 355 yards, 5 touchdowns 1 INT.
Bridgewater passed Stefan Lefors for fifth place on Louisville’s all-time passing yards list and surpassed Jay Gruden for the fourth-most touchdown passes in school history. Wide receiver Kai De La Cruz, caught four passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns. The Louisville defense looked impressive as well holding the Bobcats to only 88 total yards in the first half and only 273 yards for the game. The Cardinals offence on the other hand, racked up 615 yards.
My two cents:
Although it’s only week one and the Cards dominated, penalties could be something Coach Strong may want to address in this weeks practice, the team committed 11 in total for 90 yards.
